I am a recent graduate of Buckinghamshire New University with a BA and MA in 3D Game Art, focusing on Environment Art. I also have a passion for virtual, wildlife, and nature photography.
Living around plenty of open fields and studying photography for one of my A-Levels has helped me explore a growing interest in capturing both wildlife and nature. The majority of my work so far has been taken on walks through the fields surrounding my parent's house or on family holidays to Cornwall and the Cotswolds.
Throughout my childhood, I never considered video games as a possible career path and had no idea of the kinds of products companies were making till my late teens. The first real experience with AAA games I had was when I was gifted a PS4 for getting into university and picked up copies of The Last of Us, Uncharted 4 and The Last of Us Part 2. These 3 games showed me how amazing and beautiful video game environments can be, which allowed me to combine my love of photography and games in a section called Photomode, where you can take stage scenes and custom screenshots within the game.
I originally signed on to take part in the Animation & VFX course with a plan to go into the Film & TV industries. This was very eye-opening as it was my first chance to learn 3d modelling and general animation within Maya. Halfway through my 1st semester at Bucks, I was introduced to a program called Unreal Engine 4, which, for those unaware, is a games development engine built to be a game dev’s dream package, combining key aspects like lighting, texturing and handy node-based coding system called Blueprints. This program greatly interested me, and I spent a decent amount of time outside of class hours playing with it and making little scenes like a door that opens if a character gets within a certain radius of it. It wasn’t long before my lecturers approached me and asked if I would like to instead study a new course run in the same group as Animation and VFX called 3D Game Art. I accepted and went on to have a great time making environments in a game's workflow for the rest of the 3 years. I have since returned to the same university and completed a Masters of Arts in Advanced 3D Game Art where I improved my skills and added to my portfolio which will hopefully earn me a job in the games industry as an Environment Artist or similar genrealist role.
